A United Boost for Senegal

We recently announced the news that the Club had extended its longstanding partnership with UNICEF, pledging £1million of support over the next three years to save the lives of some the world’s poorest children.

Three months on and the first £200,000 is being sent to Senegal this week.  This vital funding will buy medicine and equipment for child health centres in the country which will help to ensure that more children survive the early years of their life.

“In Senegal 1 in 11 children die before they are five years old." said John Shiels, Foundation chief executive. "This is a shocking statistic in this day and age. We want to do everything we can to ensure that children here have more chances of survival.”

UNICEF has achieved results which would not have been possible without Manchester United, the club, the players and the fans. Already you have raised a phenomenal £2 million helping over 2.2 million children. We are extremely proud that you have pledged to raise a further £1 million to help UNICEF give every child the best start in life”

Fundraising kicked off to a flying start with the annual United for UNICEF gala dinner in November which raised a record breaking £120,000. Since then the efforts of fans have gone from strength to strength with over £300,000 worth of donations towards the cause.

In April the Foundation and UNICEF will take legends Bryan Robson and Andrew Cole on a fundraising tour of Asia in April.  Events will be held in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
