Two of the greatest names in English football will embark upon a three-city Asian tour in April to help raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation.
Manchester United Legends Bryan Robson and Andrew Cole will be on a mission when they travel to Bangkok (April 6th), Kuala Lumpur (April 8th) and Hong Kong (April 9th). No longer on the hunt for goals and silverware, the players, who between them made over 700 appearances for the club, will instead be looking to help raise £1 million (approximately HK$12.3 million) for United for UNICEF and the Manchester United Foundation.
Manchester United Foundation Chief Executive John Shiels said, “We are thrilled to have both Bryan and Andrew join the fundraising Asian tour in support of United for UNICEF and the Manchester United Foundation. As a club, one of our greatest responsibilities is towards the next generation. Through our fundraising activities this year, we hope to raise £1 million to benefit projects which have a positive impact on the lives of youngsters in need.”
Bryan Robson hopes to harness the passion of Manchester United’s legion of Asian fans, and inspire them to support the tour: “They’re passionate about their football – you can’t get better than Manchester United fans. We have a massive following all through Asia,”
Support in each city has already been phenomenal with Manchester United partners. Turkish Airlines are title sponsors for the Hong Kong and Bangkok events and Telekom Malaysia have snapped up naming rights in Kuala Lumpur.
Each gala dinner will give Manchester United fans the opportunity to meet two of Old Trafford’s greatest heroes. ‘Captain Marvel’, Bryan Robson, is the longest serving captain in the club’s history and current manager of the Thailand national team. Treble Winner, Andrew Cole is the second-highest goal-scorer in Premiership history.
Since 1999, Manchester United and UNICEF’s partnership – United for UNICEF – has raised over £2.5 million (approximately HK$31 million) for UNICEF programmes benefiting 2.2 million children. It’s also the longest running partnership between a football club and a global charity. United for UNICEF projects and campaign awareness programmes have benefitted children across the world, including many projects in Asia.
