The Manchester United Malta Supporters’ Club is the longest serving Supporters’ Club with over 61 years of devoted service to the Red Devils. The group has over 1,000 members and was formed in 1959, just one year after the Munich Air Disaster.

Malta Supporters’ Club' chairman Joseph Tedseco, along with the branch members, chose to support a charity that met the objectives of befitting young people and their families in Malta.

Joseph said: “We have chosen to support Puttinu Cares, which is a cancer support foundation for children and their parents in Malta. It was founded specifically to help the parents of children who have unfortunately been diagnosed with cancer and need to be taken abroad for treatment.

“Puttinu Cares use its donations to help parents with overseas accommodation during these terrible times. We feel obliged to help the local community and its charities and for many years Puttinu Cares has been a beneficiary of our fundraising events.”

Joseph added: “[The United for the Children fundraising campaign] was received very well and wasn’t just donated to by our members. One thing that really impressed me was when I spoke to my colleagues about it, who aren’t that interested in football, they still decided to collect funds on behalf of Puttinu Cares.”

As a lifelong Red, Joseph also explained how the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic have helped to bring everyone closer together: “I have been a part of the supporters’ club for over 23 years and I never remember an occasion like this. Where the football club has engaged the supporters’ clubs in such a big and ambitious initiative. I felt from communication with other branches abroad that it has brought the club much closer to the fans. It’s a very good move with a very good objective that has helped to bridge the gap between the club and the supporters’ clubs.”

Joseph added: “[During lockdown] the club has set an example to other great football clubs because of the way it’s helped people through the Foundation. I have had very good feedback in the way the Foundation has engaged and involved the young people during this time whether virtually or in person.

“Manchester United is the greatest football club on the planet and it has shown the whole world what a heart of gold it has.“
