Amorim amazes pupils at local primary school

Pupils at a Foundation partner school couldn’t believe their eyes when Manchester United head coach, Ruben Amorim, joined their session for a Q&A.

As a partner school of Manchester United Foundation, located barely a mile away from Old Trafford, Primrose Hill Primary School can now proudly claim to have an even closer connection to Manchester United.

The pupils were aptly excited for MUTV to be filming in their school, for what they thought was a piece on its partnership with the Foundation, and to practise their hypothetical questions for the United head coach – a task set as homework.

Little did these children know, however, that there would be nothing hypothetical about their questions to a certain Ruben Amorim.

“I have a little to secret to share with you all: Ruben is at Old Trafford today,” announced the Foundation’s Primary Schools Manager, Jordanna Roberts, to the room of excited children. “If we shout loud enough, I think he might be able to hear us!”

Sure enough, following two deafening shouts of ‘Hello, Ruben!’, the Portuguese manager himself walked through the door at the back of the sports hall – as the children’s collective excitement levels rocketed.

Amorim greeted every child in the room with high fives and handshakes, before tackling their wide-ranging questions, which saw him agreeing to be an assistant coach for the school’s football team, and joining in a rendition of the famous Glory Glory Man United to the children’s delight.

“The Portuguese Magnifico, Ruben Amorim, came to our school and we asked him questions,” said one pupil, Nathaniel. “I felt very excited and surprised that he came. He was kind and very happy to come here and be with us.”

Classmate Honey May added: “It was a big shock, but it made me really happy. It was surprising because I’ve never seen a manager before.”

Ruben’s attentions at United have of course continued elsewhere since, but his impact in this district of Old Trafford will never be forgotten, solidifying that very special connection between the Foundation and one of its partner schools.
