Class of '92 icons Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes will take part in September's much-anticipated Legends game against Celtic.

The two former midfielders, who have more than 1,000 first-team appearances between them, have been announced as the first names in Bryan Robson's squad.

Our Reds team will take on a Celtic XI managed by Paul Lambert at Old Trafford on Saturday 7 September, to raise money for Manchester United Foundation. Further star names will be revealed in the coming weeks.

United and Celtic have met competitively just four times, but the two clubs have enjoyed a close relationship for many decades.

The Scottish club became the first British club to lift the European Cup in 1967, and United opened England's account the following year.

Many players have worn the shirts of both clubs, from Paddy Crerand to Lou Macari to Roy Keane, while Robson, Brian McClair, Ryan Giggs and Keane all selected the Hoops as the opponents for their testimonials.

Manager Bryan Robson, who will be assisted by goalscoring hero Andy Cole, said:

“We’re really excited for this latest match and are hoping to see the United and Celtic fans out in force. They will be in for a great afternoon at Old Trafford, whilst also helping to support the Foundation and its amazing work.

“Every time I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of these games the competitive edge has always been there. The players might have retired, but they all still want to win and we’ve had some great games down the years. I’m delighted to be managing the team once again.”
