Manchester United Women visit patients at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital

Our women's team have been spreading Christmas cheer with patients at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital

A group of Manchester United Women players have paid a special visit to see patients at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital this festive season.

Playing games, signing autographs, handing out gifts, seven members of Marc Skinner's squad took time out to spend precious moments speaking with the young people.

In one stand-out moment, Ella Toone met aspiring DJ, Alex. She promised Alex to dedicate her next goal to him, which she fulfilled with a DJ celebration following her strike in United’s home game against Liverpool.

These annual visits are important for the whole squad, but particularly Katie Zelem, whose mum used to work at the hospital.

Katie said: “It’s amazing that we can put a smile on the children’s faces and hopefully bring them a little bit of joy around Christmas time. It’s so important while we’re in the privileged position we are, that we’re able to give back.

“You can see how happy the kids are when they get their shirts and gift packs. They’re so charismatic, they make us laugh – not only does it make their day, but it makes ours too. It’s so rewarding and inspiring for us to be able to see the kids.”

On her first visit since re-joining Manchester United, defender Gabby George added: “We’re here to visit some of the children who are in hospital. I think it puts into context how lucky we are and it’s nice to come here and put a smile on the girls and boys’ faces.”

Subject to the fixture list, our men's team hope to visit local hospitals in the new year.
