We are delighted to announce that Reds legend Antonio Valencia is the latest player to be confirmed for the Legends of the North match, when a team of United greats will take on their Liverpool counterparts.

Valencia, who made 339 appearances for the club in a career that spanned a decade, also captained the side in his final season. Known for his powerful wing play and blistering strike, the Ecuadorian became a fan favourite during his time in Manchester and is looking forward to being reunited with the Old Trafford faithful.

“My time at Manchester United gave me some of the fondest memories of my career,” Antonio said. “I was involved in great teams that won many trophies and it will be fantastic to see some of my former team-mates again for this special match.

“It’ll also be a chance for me thank the fans who always supported me through the good and bad times in my career. I’m so excited to come back.”

The former no. 25 shared a dressing room with numerous United favourites, including the likes of Patrice Evra, Paul Scholes and Dimitar Berbatov, who will all join Antonio at Old Trafford on the 21st  May. This famous United quartet will be all too familiar with not only the importance of this fixture, but the crucial role the Foundation plays in the community of Greater Manchester.

“United and Liverpool matches were always huge when I was at the club,” he recalled. “It’s an historic game and the perfect fixture to recognise the Foundation and the important work that they do.

“I would always enjoy visiting the young people in hospitals at Christmas and helping to support their projects, which provide amazing opportunities for kids in Manchester. It would be great for the people to come to Old Trafford and see us again, as well as helping to support this fantastic cause.”

The stage is set for the exciting clash between English football’s most successful teams. Who will be crowned Legends of the North?

Supporters wishing to attend the game can find more information and purchase tickets here. All proceeds from the Old Trafford match will go to Manchester United Foundation’s work with young people across Greater Manchester.
