Legends are Back: Manchester United Legends vs Barça Legends

Former Reds Andrew Cole and Quinton Fortune braved the adverse June weather to attend a press launch at a Manchester United Foundation Street Reds project in Salford, showcasing the ways in which funds raised from the charity fixture will benefit the local community.

Andrew Cole will return to the Manchester United Legends team as assistant manager to Bryan Robson, and is looking forward to taking his position in the dugout:

“I'll be getting involved with the boys and the banter, but Robbo can take all the criticism,” he joked.  "I won't be shouting at the players but I'll be encouraging them and laughing with them. It will be a good day. We enjoy these games and we've had great turnouts from the fans as well. It's usually a fun time for everyone, especially for the boys catching up with each other.”

South African Quinton Fortune will reprise his role in midfield as he joins a host of ex-players including Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes, Denis Irwin, Dwight Yorke, Phil Neville, Ronny Johnsen, Louis Saha, Mikaël Silvestre, Jesper Blomqvist and Dion Dublin.

The Spanish side will be managed by José Mari Bakero and fans can look forward to welcoming Gaizka Mendieta, Éric Abidal, Miguel Angel Nadal, Gheorghe Popescu, Andoni Goikoetxea and Julio Salinas to the Theatre of Dreams.

Legends are Back 2017 follows the success of the 2013 and 2015 clashes against Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively, which jointly raised over £1.8 million for Manchester United Foundation.

The Red veterans will also be travelling to Camp Nou on 30th June 2017 for the first leg in this exciting campaign, in a match sure to set up a thrilling return at Old Trafford in September.

The event will also include live entertainment from top music acts and family activities outside the stadium.

The match will be shown live on MUTV in the UK and tickets are on sale now from £20 for adults and £5 for under-16s, with hospitality packages available from £125. All proceeds will go to Manchester United Foundation’s work across Greater Manchester.
