Pupils were guided through each activity by Swinton students studying the Junior Football Leaders programme. The aim of the programme is to help identify and develop future sports leaders through football coaching.

Lucy, a Swinton High School student who has been on the Junior Football Leaders programme during the academic year, spoke positively about her experience. She said, "We regularly visit primary schools to help with football lessons and it allows us to get a leadership qualification as well as coaching different abilities".

She added, "As part of the day, I've been responsible for a team pupils. I've enjoyed taking them around each activity and helping them with different skills like running, dribbling and shooting."

Chris Bowcott, a Foundation coach based at Swinton High, explained the purpose of the day, "The Primary Olympics is a first for the Foundation and has been an opportunity for primary school children to come and visit Swinton High, meet some of the staff and pupils and hopefully come September they will become students at the high school."

He added "The event has also been a great success for our Junior Football Leaders who have really enjoyed the chance to help coach the young pupils. It's also been fantastic to have the support of students who have been involved in organising and entertaining the children and it's been a great experience."

From September, The Swinton High School will be entering its second year of an agreement with the Premier League club and will be one of thirteen Manchester schools benefiting from the Foundation's partner schools programme.&
