Sir Alex Ferguson and Louis van Gaal Unite at Foundation Golf Day

Louis van Gaal took part in his first charity golf day, an event which takes place annually at Dunham Forest Golf and Country Club and is attended by Manchester United first-team players and legends.  He was joined by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and a whole host of footballing greats such as Bryan Robson, Denis Irwin, Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney.

The Dutch manager said, “I have enjoyed today very much; I think it’s very important for us to get involved with events for the Foundation to help those less privileged.  It’s nice that fans want to pay to play with us and it costs us little energy to make a difference.”

Van Gaal’s legendary predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson added, “My golf isn’t great but I’m happy to be here.  The Foundation has done great work over the years and it still continues to do so, and you can see all the former players here who are helping to contribute.”

Following a few hours on the course, the players retired to the clubhouse for a meal and presentation, which saw Quinton Fortune’s team emerge victorious and Denis Irwin claim the individual prize.

Foundation trustee Irwin said, “I don’t know how I managed to sneak this but I’m delighted.  The main thing is that everyone has enjoyed it and the main aim is to raise money for the Foundation.”

The Foundation Golf Day offers fans the chance to play a round of golf with their footballing heroes.  A team of three is joined by a first-team player or legend and all money raised goes towards Manchester United Foundation’s work in the local community.
