The Foundation has delivered programmes such as sports coaching and healthy eating at the Wythenshawe primary school since 2013.  This week’s activity at Old Trafford celebrated the completion of ‘Move With Manchester United’, a physical literacy course which aims to improve fundamental skills such as balancing, jumping and throwing in young children.

Foundation coach, Nick Bradshaw, who runs the twice-weekly sessions at Ashgate, described the impact the course has had on the pupils:  “It’s been great; they have created a relationship with the coaches and have improved skills such as control and balance.  Coming to Old Trafford and working with Manchester United is an experience some of them may never have again and as well as improving physical skills, this course and today’s trip will also help them to develop them socially too.”

Jimmy Kelly, teaching assistant at Ashgate, commented, “The interaction with the kids is great; they look forward to Nick and the coaches coming in and they’ve got to know each other.  Some of the children have limited ability but Nick makes it more even ground for them but they know it’s not about winning, it’s about doing their best and they look forward to it.

“By representing Manchester United Foundation Nick leads by example and does a really good job; it shows that Manchester United puts back into the community.”

Manchester United Foundation works with Ashgate Primary through its relationship with Manchester Enterprise Academy – one of 11 high schools across Greater Manchester to benefit from an official partnership with the club.
