The 1999 Treble winner took part in a PE lesson at the Dukinfield high school, which is one of eleven schools across Greater Manchester to be partnered with Manchester United Foundation.

He joined in with a shooting session and small-sided football games before answering questions from the year 7 and 8 pupils and inviting them to the legends game which takes place on 14th June at Old Trafford.

The money raised from the legends game will make a difference to the communities in which Manchester United Foundation works and Irwin is delighted to be able to help:

“I’m a trustee on the board of Manchester United Foundation and we’re always trying to raise money for the work we do in the local community and in schools like this,” he said. “I’ve had a good day; to put a smile on kids’ faces and teach them the importance of health, wellbeing, and all of the things you can teach through the power of football, it’s fantastic.”

Foundation coach Rob Curran, who is based full time at Astley Sports College to work with the students from the high school and feeder primary schools, said, “To get advice from an ex-professional who has played at the top of his game is always going to be of benefit to the pupils; they got some great advice and had the chance to play against a true legend.

“The Foundation has many partner schools and community cohesion projects across the Greater Manchester area so the money raised from the legends match will go towards progressing and improving these projects and giving kids opportunities they don’t usually get.”

Denis Irwin will join the Manchester United legends as they take on Bayern Munich All Stars on 14th June at Old Trafford.  Manager Bryan Robson will lead the United team, which also includes Edwin van der Sar, Phil Neville, Jaap Stam, Andrew Cole, Dwight Yorke, Paul Scholes and many more.  There is all to play for after a 3-3 draw at the Allianz Arena last August and the event promises to be a fun-filled family day out.  There will be activities and a fun fair outside the stadium and a concert on the pitch pre-kick off with live music from top boyband Union J.

All money raised from the event will go towards Manchester United Foundation’s work in the local community.  Tickets are on sale now from www.manutd.com/legendsareback or by calling 0161 868 8000.
