Deaf football team documentary to air on MUTV

‘Universal Language’ is a story that follows the deaf team’s set-up and their journey under the guidance of coaches Sean Bailey and Steve Harcourt, with the help of fitness coach Jade Mottley and sign communicator Lorri Wilson.

The team are part of the Foundation’s Ability Counts programme which has grown into one of the largest in the Premier League. The programme offers people with disabilities the opportunity to coach or play football with Manchester United, and the teams focus on players with a sensory, physical and neurological impairment or disability.

Viewers who tune in will see the team experience both highs and lows during their spell in the English Deaf Cup whilst also getting to know the individual stories of the players themselves.  The documentary also features special guest appearances including former Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson and current first-team Assistant Manager Ryan Giggs.

Disability Officer and current coach Steve Harcourt praised the film and said, “It’s a great watch with some fantastic memories. They have really captured the spirit of the team. After watching it I felt very proud to be part of something that started from nothing but has gone from strength to strength.”

He added, “Documentaries like these are a great eye opener for the general public, not only is it highlighting the great work the Foundation do but it also proves that there are no barriers in place when it comes to football.”
