Swinton High announced as new partner school

The Swinton High School, A Converter Academy, has been announced as an official partner of Manchester United Foundation.

Swinton High announced as new partner school

One of only nine schools across Greater Manchester to benefit from such a partnership, Swinton High has joined the Foundation’s Hub of the Community programme, which bases full time Community Development Officers in targeted areas in order for them to build lasting relationships with the local community.

Foundation coach Chris Bowcott will be based full-time at The Swinton High School in order to work with pupils and staff, as well as delivering sessions at feeder primary schools Clifton Primary School, The Deans Primary, St Augustine’s CE Primary, Mossfield Primary, St Peters CE Primary and Wardley CE Primary.

High school provision will focus on raising aspiration, leadership and confidence building, whilst delivery in the primary schools will also involve leadership plus healthy eating and basic exercise sessions.

Chris commented, “This new partnership is a great opportunity for all students and staff in the school. The focus on leadership will enable the students of The Swinton High to pass on their knowledge and skills to the feeder primary schools. I’m really looking forward to working within this community.”

12-year-old pupil, Lucy, was recently rewarded for academic achievements with Manchester United tickets, donated through the Foundation.  She also attends the girls’ only football sessions, which Chris runs at Swinton on a Wednesday evening.  She commented, “I’m most looking forward to taking part in leadership courses and the opportunities it will provide us with.  The girls’ football sessions are really good for teaching us new skills and it’s great because football is usually just for boys but now everyone gets a chance.”

Mark Harrison, head teacher of Swinton High School concluded, “We are very excited about the opportunities our students will receive through the new partnership with Manchester United Foundation. It will give The Swinton High School community access to a world class network of support, enriching their educational experience and developing their aspirations. The Manchester United Foundation partnership is not just about football, it is about giving students the chance to work alongside professionals from all aspects of the Manchester United group.”
