The Legends are Back

Legendary players from Manchester United and Real Madrid’s glittering history will return to Old Trafford on 2nd June for an exciting charity match that is set to bring some of the greatest names in world football back to Manchester.

After a concert on the pitch from chart topping artists (names to be revealed at a later date), the Red Heart United Legends match will see United greats like Dwight Yorke, Andrew Cole, Denis Irwin and Quinton Fortune back in action in order to raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation.   The former Reds will take on a team of Real Madrid legends that includes Emilio Butragueño, Amancio Amaro and Manolo Sanchís.

The first leg of this thrilling match was played at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on 3rd June 2012 and saw the Reds narrowly lose 3-2, something the United Legends’ team manager Bryan Robson is keen to rectify:

“The match last year was fantastic and raised a lot of money for the Real Madrid Foundation, something we plan to replicate this year for our own Foundation,"  he said. “All the lads have been training hard and we will be introducing some new faces to the team this year. Red Heart United is going to be a brilliant day out for the family, we are all going to have a lot of fun, but most importantly raise awareness and funds for a very worthy cause."

Red Heart United will offer a full day out for the whole family and will include an opening ceremony with a concert on the pitch and special entertainment around the stadium. 

In keeping with the two clubs’ origins, there will also be the chance to try your hand at some Spanish and English themed games as well as sample traditional cuisine from both regions.

All proceeds from Red Heart United will go to the Manchester United Foundation and will help to fund projects that help disadvantaged young people in the communities around Greater Manchester.
