Manchester United pupils realise their football dreams at the Emirates

Every year the Premier League hosts a schools’ competition and the Manchester United Foundation held tournaments at The Cliff Training Ground to decide which teams would be put forward to represent Manchester United in the national competition held in London.

Over four weeks a total of 112 schools took part in the local tournament and in the end Cadishead Primary School U11 boys joined Broadoak High School U13 girls as the overall winners heading to the famous Emirates Stadium.

The pupils were accompanied by their parents, school staff and Foundation coaches and stayed in a hotel provided by the Premier League.  They arrived the night before the tournament and were thrilled to receive Manchester United white away kits ahead of their big games.

On arrival at the stadium, the boys and girls received goodie bags and also had the opportunity to have their photographs taken with the Premier League trophy in the changing rooms.

During the tournament, the Cadishead boys excelled with wins against teams representing Arsenal, Newcastle and Wigan but unfortunately they were beaten by Tottenham Hotspurs and therefore were knocked out of the running.

The Broadoak girls had a tough few games against Wigan, Newscastle and Spurs but the highlight of their day was beating Arsenal.

Foundation coach, Nick Bradshaw, commented, “The children were ecstatic with the chance to play at such a famous stadium.  It is an experience they will never forget.”

Kai, a pupil from Cadishead Primary, added, "The best bit has been scoring at The Emirates on a Premier League pitch!"

Further highlights of the day included meeting former United player Dion Dublin (pictured) and being filmed about the experience for  the Disney XS channel.

The schools each received a trophy for taking part and all players received a medal as a keepsake of a truly unforgettable day.
