New Year, New Challenge

If your New Year’s resolution was to get fit and challenge yourself in 2012 then the Manchester United Foundation has the perfect line-up to kick-start the New Year and a new you...

In previous years participants have taken part in a number of challenges to fundraise for the Foundation and this year is no different with more events than ever for budding runners, swimmers and cyclists to get stuck in to.

Greater Manchester Marathon: 29th April 2012 - Applications now closed
The sporting calendar kicks off with the return of the Greater Manchester Marathon.  After a ten-year absence, over 8000 runners are expected to embark upon the 26 mile, 385 yard course, which will start at Longford Park in Stretford and take in iconic landmarks such as the Imperial War Museum, the new Media City, Trafford Park and the beautiful Dunham Massey.

Those taking part will have the added bonus of running alongside former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune who has announced he will be swapping his football boots for training shoes to run the race to fundraise for the MU Foundation.  He commented, “I’ve never run a distance like this before but the Foundation is a great cause and one I’m hoping to raise plenty of money for.”

Great Manchester Run: 20th May 2012
At 10km, this course is significantly shorter than the marathon but runners will still experience fantastic city centre sights and landmarks such as the Lowry and the Imperial War Museum.

Great Manchester Swim:  1st July 2012
This one-mile course is a fantastic challenge for all swimming abilities, from first-timers to professionals, and features a unique ‘dock-to-dock’ course in Manchester’s waterfront attraction, Salford Quays.

Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride: 8th July 2012
Returning for its 26th year, this 60-mile journey begins at our home ground, Old Trafford, and culminates on the South Promenade at Blackpool, where riders can enjoy a barbecue, live music and a well-earned beverage in the beer-tent!

So what are you waiting for?  Sign up today to take part in one of the fantastic New Year Challenges and make 2012 a year to remember, knowing that you’ve helped to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children in your community.
