Robson Committed to Tour

Reds legend Bryan Robson will be part of April’s tour of Asia despite recent treatment for throat cancer.

Robson Committed to Asia Tour

Robson, the longest-serving captain in club history, is adamant he will attend all three fundraising gala dinners in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, where unique club memorabilia and experiences will be auctioned to raise funds for United for UNICEF and the Manchester United Foundation.

Robson said, “The prognosis is good, so I count myself extremely lucky and am even more committed to raising funds to help improve the lives of vulnerable youngsters.  I have been overwhelmed by the support of United fans and well wishers, and I hope everyone in Asia joins me in supporting these events.”

Robson will be joined on the tour by Andrew Cole, the second-highest goal scorer in Premiership history.  Cole is also committed to the important work of the Foundation, and is looking forward to the tour:  “It is fantastic news that Bryan will be joining me on the tour.  We are both looking forward to seeing all our fans across Asia, and really making a difference to the children there who need help the most.”

To celebrate Robson’s participation in the events, which had been in some doubt while he underwent further tests, the Manchester United Foundation today announced it will donate one signed Manchester United shirt for each table of 10 purchased until Friday, March 25.

On each of the three tour stops - Bangkok (April 6), Kuala Lumpur (April 8) and Hong Kong (April 9) - a number of unique Manchester United items will be auctioned during the evening.

One of the actual Audi car seats from the dugout at Old Trafford – the original ‘hot seat’ - signed by the 2010 first team will be up for grabs in each city. It is from these very seats, each a work of art in itself, that Sir Alex Ferguson steers the iconic club to ever-greater achievements.

Manchester United partner Hublot has donated a Big Bang Steel time piece for each auction, uniquely customised with a dial identical to that used for the players’ watches in 2009. The watch itself is worth more than HK$100,000, but the bespoke version, engraved on the reverse to commemorate the tour, is priceless.

Hong Kong and Bangkok title sponsor Turkish Airlines has donated the ultimate Manchester United adventure in each city – two return business class flights to Manchester, a stay at one of the city’s top hotels and the chance to experience the Theatre of Dreams in Turkish Airlines’ state-of-the-art hospitality box for the first home match of the 2011/2012 season.

Other spectacular auction items include a signed and framed photograph of Wayne Rooney’s winning overhead kick against Manchester City last month, a goal that will certainly go down in the annals of history.

The Manchester United Foundation and UNICEF Legends Charity Dinner in Association with Turkish Airlines features a gala evening at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong with both silent and live auctions and Cole and Robson live on stage.
