Award for Kickz

Lee Adams received an Outstanding Social Behaviour Award in recognition of his work with young people in the Clifford ward of Old Trafford this month.  The awards were hosted by Charisma and took place at the City of Manchester stadium as part of Peace Week 2009.

Lee was nominated for his award by Greater Manchester Police and an organisation called REACH – which encourages positive role models in the community.

Lee works on Kickz, which the Foundation has been running Kickz in Trafford, since September 2006.   Kickz aims to use the power of football and the appeal of the professional club’s brands to target some of the more hard to reach and challenging communities in order to create safer, stronger and more respectful communities through the development of young people’s potential.

The project runs three nights a week at Old Trafford Sports Barn, a facility which is less than ten minutes walk from the stadium.  Kickz runs at times when anti-social behaviour is at its highest, with over 400 young people regularly attending sessions.  Young people attending are encouraged to volunteer and often move on to take coaching qualifications.
