School children get top tips

United legend provides local children with some inspiration

Local football stars of the future were given the chance to pick up some top tips from Manchester United legend Denis Irwin this month at Manchester United Foundation’s football holiday course in Altrincham.

Denis presented the children with certificates and passed on some of his expert knowledge.  The courses give local children access to FA qualified coaches and run every school holiday at The Cliff Training Ground in Salford and Blessed Thomas Holford School in Altrincham.

Football in the Community Manager David Ryan said:  “Denis is an excellent role model for the kids, as a footballer he was known for his hard work, dedication, discipline and professionalism; these are valuable life skills that we try and teach to all children involved with the Foundation.”

Denis Irwin said:  “As I kid I always wanted to be playing football and these courses are great because they give all kids the opportunity to do just that, but with some Manchester United magic to help them along the way.”

This year, Manchester United Foundation has teamed up with local childcare provider OK Mum to provide an optional wrap around childcare facility to cover working hours of busy parents.

John Shiels, Chief Executive and father of four says:

We are responding to a clear need for quality courses which cover an entire working day.  Being a parent myself I know how hard it is to find entertainment for the kids throughout the holidays that is flexible enough for busy parents.   Linking up with an established childcare provider was an ideal solution.  Our courses are about delivering high quality coaching in a safe environment but most importantly they are fun and a great way to entertain the kids in the school holidays. “
