Senne Lammens has joined Manchester United Foundation’s celebrations for World Book Day by inspiring primary school pupils at Partington Central Academy through the power of reading.
Senne and a group of pupils were joined by children’s author A.M. Dassu as they took part in The Great Big World Book Day 2026 Footy and Booky Quiz, a live quiz shared with over half-a-million children across the country this morning, on World Book Day.
Taking place at one of 30 primary schools partnered with Manchester United Foundation, Senne helped to hand out books from the National Literacy Trust to the delighted children, and spoke about his enjoyment of reading growing up and how that has helped him in his career.
Making his first community visit with Manchester United Foundation, Senne said: “It’s a fantastic initiative from the Foundation around reading and writing. I still read a lot today and it helps me in football as well.
“One of the great honours we have of playing for Manchester United is the amount of support we get from our fans and especially kids of this age. I know how important it is for them to see guys like us give an example to them and to support them, so it’s been nice to come and help them and give them some advice.”
The goalkeeper also spent time answering questions about reading and football before joining the excited group in the sports hall for games of boccia, curling and handball.
One of the pupils who had the chance to meet Senne and join him for the activities was Manchester United fan Izzy, who loved meeting one of her heroes.
Izzy said: “I was so happy and I’ve never seen a football player in person before, I couldn’t believe it! Senne was very kind to us and answered our questions really nicely. He also gave us some tips and I think I’ve learned a lot from him.”
Manchester United Foundation is one of 104 professional football club charities across England and Wales to benefit from more than 1,200 free books this World Book Day. These will be distributed to children from the Foundation’s network of 30 partner primary schools as part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme.
Over the past five years, Manchester United Foundation has helped to distribute almost 15,000 books with Read Manchester, a partnership between the National Literacy Trust and Manchester City Council, to primary school children, which are collectively worth more than £85,000.
This year’s donation, which has been supported by the World Book Day Charity and National Year of Reading initiative, forms part of the League's partnership with the National Literacy Trust on Premier League Primary Stars literacy activity.
