Foundation coat appeal

Manchester United Foundation is asking fans to donate clean adult and child coats at Old Trafford to support local children and families in need this winter.

More than 4,250 coats have been donated through this appeal in the last two years, and supporters are again urged to bring a coat on two Old Trafford matchdays this year.

Donations are requested for the men’s team game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday 25 October (15:00 BST kick-off) and the women’s team fixture against Paris Saint Germain on Wednesday 12 November (20:00 GMT kick-off), with donations accepted from 90 minutes before kick-off.

All coats received will primarily be donated to those in need who access Foundation projects and partner schools, as well as identified poverty charities based in Manchester.

The Foundation positively impacted the lives of more than 41,000 young people in the 2024/25 season, operating in the areas of highest social deprivation across the Greater Manchester region – where the alarming rate of young people affected by poverty continues to rise.

New data published by Loughborough University for 2023/24 estimated that 38 per cent of children in Greater Manchester (approximately 262,000) were living in poverty, while seven constituencies within the region had child poverty rates of more than 40 per cent.

John Shiels, CEO of Manchester United Foundation, said: “Manchester United Foundation has a presence in all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester, working to support young people to make more positive choices in their lives. Unfortunately, our staff witness on a daily basis how tough life circumstances have become for our younger generations and their families.

“Poverty rates continue increasing in Greater Manchester, meaning that - while we have been humbled by the donations we have received from Manchester United fans to this appeal in the past two years - it’s more important than ever for us to call on the support of fans once more, to help those less fortunate, especially ahead of another challenging winter period.

“One of the things I admire most about the Manchester United fanbase is the consciousness shown to others and our deep community spirit. I’d urge all supporters to show that again by donating any coats you can - it could offer a lifeline to someone in need this winter.”

HOW TO DONATE

Coats can be donated from 90 minutes before kick-off for both fixtures, at signposted donation bins next to the five bag drop locations on site at Old Trafford.

The location of each bag drop location can be found by clicking here. Donations at Manchester United v Brighton & Hove Albion will be open from 16:00 BST until kick-off.

Donations at Manchester United Women v Paris Saint Germain will be open from 18:30 GMT until kick-off. The winter coat appeal is running for the two specified matchdays only.

Supporters are asked to ensure all coats donated are clean, with pockets emptied and all personal belongings removed before donating.
