Bryan Robson will once again return as manager of the United legends - this time facing former team-mate Brian McClair in the dugout - with a squad including Michael Carrick, Wes Brown, Mikael Silvestre, Ronny Johnsen, Karel Poborsky and many more ready to lace up their boots once again in the name of charity.
Last year’s match at Old Trafford saw Celtic run out 5-4 winners in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, with Wayne Rooney netting a wonderful free-kick for United – so it’s all to play for at the return event.
Mikael Silvestre said: “I am excited; it's always fun to go back on to the pitch, enjoy the football and get back together with former teammates. It’s also crucial to get involved to raise money for the Manchester United and Celtic Foundations – it makes a difference to the lives of many youngsters.”
"It's not just an ordinary game,” said Michael Carrick. “It's something different: two great clubs, two great foundations, two unbelievable sets of supporters, and a great history – all to raise money for great causes. Every pound, every penny, it's priceless how much you can affect people's lives.”
United and Celtic have only met each other four times in competitive history, with both Carrick and Silvestre being a part of Champions League squads to play the Bhoys at Celtic Park.
“Celtic Park is a special place in terms of atmosphere and the following of the fans; they are great,” Silvestre said. “So we expect a big crowd and a good atmosphere for us to enjoy it even more.”
Carrick said: "It's genuinely one of my favourite atmospheres and stadiums that I’ve played at, so I'm looking forward to going back. The legends also obviously played against each other at Old Trafford last year, so it'll be nice for us to come out on top this year, for sure.”
