With the rise of darts sensation and big Red, Luke Littler, the sport has never been more popular! This is certainly the case in Foundation partner schools with many students trying their hand and loving stepping up to the oche.
Many readers will have no doubt followed the World Matchplay series in Blackpool over the summer, where the aforementioned Littler scooped the darts triple crown, and thanks to the Junior Darts Corporation (JDC), a group of deserving participants from our partner schools Stockport Academy and Glossopdale, were able to get involved too!
The group of 17, all keen players, were invited to Blackpool’s famous Winter Gardens to take part in a session that tested not only their darts skills but also their numeracy. Then, as a special treat, the students were taken on a backstage tour of the arena and invited onto the main stage where they were able to throw some darts and pose with the World Matchplay trophy!
“We’ve had a great morning with the kids from Manchester, getting them involved with our Bullseye Maths Programme which provides a different and fun way for the students to engage with numbers, and enjoy some darts of course,” Gary Horsley, Director of Community and Education Projects for the JDC, told us.
“I’m a big United fan, so it was an absolute pleasure to invite the Foundation to Blackpool and it made it extra special to see how much the kids loved the opportunity, particularly when we took them on stage.”
“I feel like I’ve completed it!” enthused Cian, a participant from Stockport Academy, as he left the main stage with a beaming smile. “Going on stage was honestly such a great experience and even though there was no crowd, I feel like I competed in a major competition! It was amazing!”
I feel like I’ve completed it; I feel like I competed in a major competition!
