United and the Community Shield

‘United in the Community’ will be showcased at Sunday’s match against Leicester City in celebration of Manchester United and its Foundation’s incredible work across the local Greater Manchester community.

The United in the Community identity incorporates players and participants from Foundation projects, all bound together with a scarf, and is emblazoned with the Foundation’s vision: Engage, Inspire, Unite.

This identity will be displayed across all Manchester United and Foundation channels, the artwork on the team coach and also in the stadium where every fan who has purchased tickets through the club will receive a scarf, with the entire west stand of Wembley Stadium forming a huge UNITED mosaic.

All Foundation participants featured in the campaign will be attending the game as guests of Manchester United.  Many of the young people have been featured in Manchester United Foundation’s ongoing #UnitedandMe campaign – a year-long, case study led, online initiative.

Through the Community Shield we are taking #UnitedandMe further as we follow the stories of Mel and Thriston – both Foundation volunteers but with very different journeys.  We will also meet eight-year-old Ryan, a participant on the Move With Manchester United physical literacy programme who received the surprise of his life when United midfielder, Ander Herrera, invited him to be a mascot at the Community Shield match.

“It’s fantastic for the Foundation to be involved in a club wide campaign ahead of the Community Shield,” says Manchester United Foundation chief executive John Shiels. “The experiences that our participants have had in the build up to the game will undoubtedly provide them with lifelong memories.”

The funds raised from the Community Shield will continue to help young people across Greater Manchester through the opportunities and projects delivered by Manchester United Foundation all year round.
