Study with Manchester United Foundation

The bespoke leadership programme is designed to develop sports leaders of the future, and allows students the opportunity to gain valuable leadership experiences as well as an insight into the coaching philosophies of Manchester United.

The two-year programme allows 16-18 year olds to develop their coaching skills and experience real life work experience opportunities within the sports industry. Over the duration of the programme students will have the opportunity to work towards qualifications including a BTEC in Sport and FA 1st 4 Sport Certificates in Football Coaching.

18-year-old Joe Duckett is currently in his second year of studying the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and is expected to hit high grades. Alongside this he has also gained a paid position with Manchester United Foundation working across many projects.

Joe said, “I went to college to enrol onto a normal BTEC course as I’d done a bit of coaching before, but I arrived and saw the Foundation running a BTEC course, it just felt like the perfect opportunity and everything started from there.”

He added, “As a result of the BTEC I’m also going to the USA this summer to continue my coaching development. The chance to coach every hour of every day is something new for me and it’ll be a good way for me to experience the different coaching styles and methods in a different sporting culture.”

Lami Sonola, Education Manager at the Foundation, commented, “Joe is one of many examples who are gaining national qualifications, accessing real life volunteering and work opportunities at Manchester United Foundation, working in grassroots football in Greater Manchester and beyond.”
