Players announced for Manchester United Legends vs Bayern Munich AllStars

A press conference was held today at Old Trafford, attended by team captain Bryan Robson, former United defender Denis Irwin, club managing director and chairman of Manchester United Foundation Richard Arnold and Bayern Munich legend Paul Breitner.

Robson and Breitner will lead their respective teams and each captain gave an idea of the legends fans can expect to see run out onto the Old Trafford pitch in June. Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar will be in net for the Reds, whilst classic duo Andrew Cole and Dwight Yorke plus legendary midfielder Paul Scholes and Dutch defender Jaap Stam will also be dusting off their boots. From the German side, fans can look forward to seeing the likes of Mark van Bommel, Giovane Elber and Dietmar Hamann.

The event follows the success of the 2013 clash between United and Real Madrid legends, which raised £1 million for Manchester United Foundation and will also include live entertainment from top boyband Union J and a fun-fair, promising to be a fantastic day out for the whole family.

The Red veterans travelled to Munich in August 2014 for the first leg against their German counterparts, with goals from Paul Scholes and Andrew Cole resulting in a 3-3 draw, so there is all to play for in the return match in June.

During the press conference Robson commented, “The two squads are very strong but it’s more than just the match. You’ve got everything going on outside the stadium for the kids and then you’ve got the music concert and then you’ve got the game. We have got good quality players once again so we’re hoping for a great following.”

1974 World Cup winner Breitner added, “It’s one of the most outstanding moments for a retired player to get the chance to play, maybe your last important game at the age at 40/50/60, at Old Trafford. Of course we would like to win but we want to give a sensation to the fans and we want to spend a great Sunday here in Manchester.”

Tickets are on sale now, from £20 for adults, and from £5 for under-16s, with hospitality packages available from £99. All proceeds will go to Manchester United Foundation’s work across Greater Manchester.
