Santa Run - Going the extra mile

Colin Scholes, an operations manager for Manchester United Merchandising Ltd, has joined the Santa Run for the past six years, and it’s always been a festive family affair.

“My wife and I have four children aged 8-13 and they love dressing up and being part of the day,” Colin explained.  “Over the past few years we have got other family members involved as well.”

The Santa Run encourages runners to raise money for the Foundation or any charity close to their hearts.  Old Trafford is transformed into a winter wonderland with festive activities for the whole family, including Father Christmas in his grotto and a fancy dress competition.

Colin said, “We always do as much as we can as a family and the Santa Run is a great family event; it has become one of our Christmas traditions.

“We support the Foundation throughout the year through different events such as the Ladies’ Lunch and the annual treks so we dedicate the Santa Run to The Christie in memory of the children’s grandad.”

The Scholes family is renowned at the event for their creative costumes, which in previous years have included the children being dressed as presents and Christmas trees.  The family comes up with the ideas collectively and many of the outfits are made by Colin’s wife.  Regarding this year’s costumes, Colin hinted, “We won’t be dressed as Father Christmas but we will have a seasonal theme.”
