Street Reds participants celebrate the World Cup on Newsround feature

The CBBC programme invited the youngsters to star in a programme celebrating the launch of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and they were filmed discussing England’s chances in the competition.

The five children involved regularly attend Street Reds on Tuesday and Friday evenings at FitCity Ordsall.  The sessions include football coaching and alternative activities, with the aim of engaging young people at times where they may otherwise become involved in anti-social behaviour.

Nine-year-old Jayden said, “I watch Newsround every morning before I go to school so to see myself on it will be amazing, I feel really glad to have been chosen to take part.”

Teammate Leo, 10, added, “It’s been really fun, I was a bit nervous at first because I thought I couldn’t do it but it turned out to be really good.

“I‘m going to go home and scream, ‘Mum, I’m going to be on telly!’”

The World Cup programme will feature on Newsround, CBBC on Friday 13th June at 4.20pm.
