Michael Carrick to kick-off Santa Run

The seventh annual event will begin at 11.30am with the 5K Serious Santa Run on the Old Trafford forecourt on Sir Matt Busby Way.  Runners will make their way down the newly-named Sir Alex Ferguson Way before taking in the sights of the Imperial War Museum, The Lowry and MediaCity.

The 2K Family Fun Runners will set off at 12.30pm and join-up with the other runners after taking a shorter route that leads down United Road  this of course will take all the Santas home to Old Trafford where they will make a player’s entrance into the stadium by running down the tunnel into the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

Michael is delighted to be involved this year: “I’m very happy to be starting off the Santa Run,” he said. “I have some big boots to fill as United legends Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ryan Giggs have started the race in the past but I’m looking forward to it.  It will be great to see all the runners dressed up and hopefully a lot of money will be raised for some fantastic charities.”

Other Christmas activities taking place around the stadium will include a brass band playing all your favourite festive tunes, the Manchester United Foundation street dance troop will be performing and you can visit Santa in his grotto to receive an early Christmas gift.

The Santa Run is a charity event and participants are invited to raise money for the Foundation and our charity partners, Francis House Children’s Hospice, The Christie and UNICEF, or any other charity of your choice.

Entry costs are £10 for a single entry, £5 for children or £20 for families.  Entries include a Santa hat for children or a full suit for adults, all runners will receive a medal and there is a fancy dress competition for best-dressed.
