United Treble Success

Manchester United girls treble their way to victory.

United Treble Success

The MU Foundation Girls’ Centre of Excellence U18s team tackled their way to success last week with a 6-0 victory over Royton, Oldham and Crompton (ROCS) at Mayfield Sports Ground in Rochdale, to secure the League Cup and complete an amazing treble-winning season.

The victory follows on from last week’s 3-0 Challenge Cup final win against Denton and a nine point win in the Cheshire and Manchester Under 18s League.

Coach Lami Sonola said: “United’s opposition for the final have been this season’s toughest test so far. However from beginning to end we were in full control and the girls displayed their finest performance of the season. All of them played exceptionally well but the two goals form Ellie Charnley and Jess Graham in the first half put us in a comfortable position. Our midfield trio of Elle Charnley, Chloe Garford and Hannah Mitchell has been really fantastic this season.“

With last year’s season also ending with three trophies, it is not surprise to see the girls heading for the same success again. The latest win from the U18s sees a repeat treble victory and more silver wear to add to the cabinet.

Emma Fletcher, Centre of Excellence Director said: ‘’The girls have worked hard all season, and I’m very proud of their success. To have the opportunity to work with these girls, watch them grow and fulfil their potential is amazing; this is truly what the Foundation is all about. They deserve everything they have earned this season and I can’t wait to begin work for next season!’’

MU Foundation’s Girls’ Development programme provides opportunities for girls to play football from grassroots, through to elite level. The commitment to girls’ football continues through various school projects taking place in our partner schools and schools across the region. Our FA Centre of Excellence allows girls to play at the highest level providing pathways into the England National squads. A number of our players from the Centre have now gone on to represent England.
