GB Team Receive Caps

After the recent success in Turkey at The European Football Championships, Great Britain’s amputee team were awarded their British caps at a special event at Manchester United's first team training ground to mark their achievement.

The team were invited to Carrington to take part in a training session and then were presented awards and caps from England International Michael Carrick.   Michael was impressed with the team's performance on the pitch, he said: 

“It is always a great honour to play for your country and I am grateful that I have been given the chance to do that in my own career.  I am proud to have been asked to present these lads with their Great Britain caps.  It is amazing to watch them play – they are fantastic at what they do.”

Foundation coach Adam Temple who trains the squad congratulated them for their efforts.

“It’s been a great day for the team and their families meeting Michael and having the chance to train at Carrington. I would like to thank the lads for all their commitment and hard work and I hope this will continue in future tournaments.”

Manchester United Foundation provides the team with training support as part of its disability programme and many of the Great Britain team represent Manchester United in the Greater Manchester and the North West Ability Counts Leagues.  The Foundation runs a centre of excellence in partnership with the Manchester FA to encourage the more talented players from the Ability Counts teams into the England International squads.
