Open Training at Old Trafford

Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville were just some of the stars from the Manchester United first team who showed off their skills in a full training session for fans at Old Trafford this morning, to raise money for Manchester United Foundation.

The Foundation hosted the event and all proceeds from the day will be donated to the charity and the projects it supports in the local community.  With over 8500 fans in attendance it is thought that over £30,000 will be raised from the day.

The day was a unique opportunity for fans and their families to get closer to Sir Alex Ferguson and his team and watch the Champions of England and Europe train at the Theatre of Dreams.  It was a great day out for the whole family and also included a visit from team mascot Fred the Red and the Manchester United Academy.  Fans were also given the chance to take part in penalty shoot out competitions and football coaching from the Foundation’s Football in the Community coaches, with fairground rides, bouncy castles and other special events taking part around the stadium.

John Shiels, chief executive for the Foundation said:  “What a fantastic day – even the weather turned out well for us!  We would like to thank Sir Alex and the team for taking part in the event and of course we would like to thank all fans for their support.  The money will be used to support our work with young people and to help us develop our community projects in Trafford, Manchester and Salford.”
