Sir Alex Ferguson will return as manager of the United side for the home leg at Old Trafford on 13th November 2021, assisted by Manchester United ambassadors Bryan Robson and Andrew Cole.

Robson and Cole will also take on managerial duties for the away leg of this unmissable event at Anfield on 9th October and Sir Kenny Dalglish will be back in the dugout as manager of the Liverpool FC Legends. Fans can also look forward to welcoming back a host of footballing legends, with players for both sides being announced in the coming weeks.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who managed Manchester United for 26 years, winning 38 trophies with many of the players set to return for the event, said: “I always look forward to returning to Old Trafford, especially the opportunity to take my old seat in the dugout and watch the players I worked with for many years. It's a great opportunity to catch up with old friends, give back to the fans and support the work of Manchester United Foundation.

“These legends fixtures are always special occasions and playing in a match against Liverpool will resonate with all involved. Everyone knows the historic rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool, but this time we're working together to make a difference to young people across the region.”

John Shiels MBE, chief executive of Manchester United Foundation, said: “These matches are a fantastic opportunity for fans to see legends of the game back in action, but, more importantly, it’s the chance to make a difference to young people in our communities who have really suffered during the pandemic.  More children than ever – over one in three – are living below the poverty line, and suffering with their mental health, so your support through events like this is vital to help both Foundations deliver life-changing programmes and really make a difference to their futures.”

Manchester United Foundation and Liverpool FC Foundation are uniting off the pitch, as money raised from the two events will go towards their respective work across the North West of England, supporting young people in their local communities.
