The group of seven girls are part of the Foundation’s Education programme, which is delivered in partner schools across Greater Manchester, and have been working alongside Education Coordinator, Philippa Harrison, since September 2011.  To try and solve an issue of disengagement with curriculum, Philippa introduced the girls to alternative activities such as event organisation and fundraising.

Together, the Year 10 pupils chose a charity that meant something to each of them and began training for the Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research.  Despite the event being on a Saturday morning, the girls were committed and even subsidised their fundraising by running beauty workshops at lunch and baking cakes.

Following the race at Tatton Park, Philippa commented, “I am really proud of the girls for their dedication to this event and the way their attitude has changed both in and out of school.”

Fourteen year-old, Alex Marsom added, "Working with the Foundation means we get to do things we wouldn’t normally get to do, like the Race for Life.  Today has been really good as we have done something to help other people.  It’s something I’ll never forget."
