Phil Neville visits Manchester United Foundation school ahead of legends match against Bayern Munich

The 1999 Treble winner dropped by to take part in a PE lesson at the Wythenshawe high school, which is one of eleven schools across Greater Manchester to be partnered with Manchester United Foundation.

He joined in with small-sided football games before giving the students advice about school and inviting them to the legends game which takes place on 14th June at Old Trafford.

The money raised from the legends game will make a difference to the communities in which Manchester United Foundation works, Like Wythenshawe, and Neville is delighted to be able to help:

“It’s great – this is an unbelievable facility in an area that’s really deprived. You can see the enjoyment and dedication the kids have in the sessions; it’s lifted everybody, and it’s a really great example of the work the Foundation does, coming into schools and areas that need it most. They don’t usually get the best coaching or the best facilities and it’s put a smile on kids’ faces.”

The former Red continued, “The legends game on 14th June is vital for the Foundation to keep progressing, keep making it bigger and better so it makes a bigger impact on the community.”

Foundation coach Lee Caldwell, who is based full time at Manchester Health Academy to work with the students and feeder primary schools, said, “The kids love meeting players and legends as it gives them the inspiration to try and be like them, not just on the playing side, but you can see the positive attitudes that have been built up through being part of a team – the advice they give is fantastic and it’s a great experience.”

Year 9 student Curtis added, “It’s been a great experience for Phil to come into our school and that we have such a link with Manchester United.  I volunteer at the Foundation Street Reds project with younger kids and would like to become a coach myself so it’s been great for me to be able to progress.”

Phil Neville will join the Manchester United legends as they take on Bayern Munich All Stars on 14th June at Old Trafford.  Manager Bryan Robson will lead the United team, which also includes Edwin van der Sar, Denis Irwin, Jaap Stam, Andrew Cole, Dwight Yorke, Paul Scholes and many more.  There is all to play for after a 3-3 draw at the Allianz Arena last August and the event promises to be a fun-filled family day out.  There will be activities and a fun fair outside the stadium and a concert on the pitch pre-kick off with live music from top boyband Union J.

All money raised from the event will go towards Manchester United Foundation’s work in the local community.  Tickets are on sale now from www.manutd.com/legendsareback or by calling 0161 868 8000.
