More than 1,500 ‘Santas’ – a record-breaking turnout – took part in the event, which raised money for a number of national and local charities, including The Christie, Francis House Children’s Hospice, Cancer Research and the NSPCC.
Carrick started both races on the day – the 5k ‘Serious Santa Run’ and the 2k ‘Family Fun Run’ – and has nothing but praise for the work the Foundation do:
"They do so much in the local community and worldwide, and the players want to get involved in as much as they can. This was another great opportunity,” he said. “The race has been going for a few years now and it’s got bigger every time which is fantastic. And, of course, the best thing about it is the fact it’s raised a lot of money for so many important causes.”
Other Christmas activities taking place around the stadium included a brass band playing favourite festive tunes, the Manchester United Foundation street dance troop performed ahead of each race and Santa was in his grotto giving out early Christmas gifts.
