Back in August 2007 Manchester United announced charity partnerships with two national and four local charities. 18 months down the line and the Club has helped to raise over £450,000 towards projects for the charities.
The Children’s Society, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, The Christie Charity, The New Children’s Hospital Appeal, Francis House Children’s Hospice and Chorley charity The Legacy - Rainbow House have all been busy fundraising through the partnerships with the Club and have benefited from fundraising events such as abseils from the North Stand, Santa Runs, charity football games at the Club’s training ground in Carrington and other unique events. Speaking of the fantastic achievement, Wendy Rennison, Charities Manager for the Foundation said:
"We are thrilled with the total so far but we still have a long way to go. If any fan out there is thinking of doing a sponsored run, a sponsored silence or anything, then why not get in touch with us and help us to raise money for Manchester United’s charities and the projects we are supporting. We make sure they are all really worthwhile projects that will make a huge difference to people up and down the UK.”
The projects that Manchester United is helping to raise funds for are:
The Legacy - Rainbow House – the development of an indoor sports facility at The Legacy, Rainbow House for the children affected by neurological disorders.
The Christie Charity - Recruitment of a full time Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist with the associated equipment to work solely in the Young Oncology Unit at The Christie Hospital.
New Children’s Hospital Appeal - Provision of parental accommodation at the New Children’s Hospital, which includes beds for parents who have children staying at the hospital.
Francis House - Recruitment and employment of a team of Home Care nurses providing an outreach care service for children with terminal and life-limiting illnesses.
Cystic Fibrosis Trust - Covering the patient costs associated with a gene therapy multi-dose clinical trial programme in an attempt to find a treatment for CF.
The Children’s Society - Following the findings of The Good Childhood Enquiry, The Children’s Society and Manchester United will agree the appropriate project
