Girls' Football
There are two aspects to girls’ football at the Manchester United Foundation; managing the FA Centre of Excellence and developing grassroots girls’ football in Manchester, Trafford and Salford.
The Manchester United Foundation FA Centre of Excellence
Established in 2009, we provide opportunities for girls to play football at the highest level, with the aim of developing them into international players. Players who are selected for the Centre receive intensive training and support, along with the chance to compete against other Centres of Excellence teams from the North West.
Teams are arranged in the following age groups:
- Under 9s (development)
- Under 11s
- Under 13s
- Under 15s
- Under 17s
All sessions will take place at The Cliff Training Ground. All four teams play in a Centre of Excellence fixture programme and home games that are played at Ayreshire Road.

Girls’ Development
Despite Physical Education being compulsory in school, one in five girls do no physical activity in a week. To address this issue the Foundation runs a Girls’ Development Programme, in partnership with Nike, which provides football and coaching opportunities for girls through to senior level.
We provide girls only curriculum-time sessions, lunchtime and after school clubs and holiday courses with the aim of getting more girls involved in football.
Bespoke events throughout the year also encourage participation in sport and aid the development of girls’ football.
