Manchester United and Christie's are uniting to beat cancer.
Christie's is the charity which raises funds for the Christie Hospital - one of Europe’s leading cancer treatment centres. Like Manchester United, it is a Manchester institution with a worldwide reputation for excellence.
Manchester United’s support of the Christie is helping to recruit a full time physiotherapist, a full time occupational therapist and associated equipment to work with young cancer patients and help them to lead as normal life a life as possible during a time when they face complete upheaval. Given what the young people at Christie’s have been dealing with - it is only natural that they want to get on with their lives and one of the ways of doing that is through physiotherapy and exercise.
The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest single-site cancer treatment centres in Europe, and an international leader in cancer research and development. The hospital is based in Manchester, but because of its specialist nature, patients travel to the Christie from all over the North West and beyond. Around 40,000 patients are treated each year and medical staff share their expertise with colleagues in hospitals across the region.
The Christie Hospital provides:
- High quality diagnosis, treatment and care for more than 3.2 million people across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
- World class research
- Education in all aspects of cancer
