Community Health Trainers
The Manchester Community Health Trainers scheme designed to give individuals in the community the support and encouragement they need to lead a healthy and stress-free lifestyle. Launched by NHS Manchester in 2006 it is a free service that can help you find ways of leading a healthier lifestyle and look at areas where you are tempted into unhealthy habits.
The team consists of around twenty members based at locations throughout Manchester City and the Foundation has its own Community Health Trainer, Steve Hoy, who is based at the Cliff Training ground in Salford.
Health Trainers are all local people who have been trained to help you make a real difference to your health by helping you to eat healthily, become more active, sleep soundly, manage stress, become smoke free, drink safely and socialise. They can talk to you about the kind of support you are looking for and the goals you would like to achieve. All information will be treated in the strictest of confidence and you will not be under any obligations.
During your first session you will talk about your needs and your Health Trainer will work with you to help you set your own goals. Together you will come up with an agreed action plan that is realistic and easy to follow and will be tailored to your individual needs.
Manchester Community Health Trainers scheme can help and support you in getting out and about and meeting new people. Even if it is something as simple as wanting to make new friends then Health Trainer’s can work with you to find a suitable group/activity that will enable you to become more social. The scheme offers a huge range of activities from walking clubs to cook and taste sessions which all work to help build a healthier lifestyle for individuals in the community.
