Something to Chew On
The Foundation recognises how important it is for young people to make healthy lifestyle choices and develop into responsible citizens. We are therefore in the process of developing a new range of Key Stage 2 resources aimed at giving children an understanding of healthy eating and healthy lifestyles.
These resources will be developed in partnership with the Food Standards Association and Salford City Council with funding from the Premier League/PFA Community Fund. The programme will be piloted in primary schools in Salford and rolled out across Trafford and Manchester over three years.
It is hoped that this work will enhance curriculum delivery in schools and provide teachers with a selection of material to draw upon. The work will benefit schools and their local communities through the Every Child Matters Agenda by:
- improving young people's understanding of what constitutes healthy eating and a healthy diet
- increase young people's knowledge of food safety
- increase young people's uptake of physical activity
The design of the materials will be ongoing.
